The future with streaming music…

Kanye recently released his long-awaited album, The Life of Pablo for Tidal subscribers to get the first listen.

Most fans were waiting until a week had passed to purchase the album on iTunes, but Kanye made a shocking announcement that the album would not be on the store. In fact, he said that The Life of Pablo would NEVER be for sale.

Subscriptions to Tidal soon reached 2.5 million subscribers, which is more than double the amount before TLOP was added to the streaming service (according to Fader).

But with services like Tidal, how will this affect fans and the way that we get our music?

Spotlight: Hannah Lux Davis

This is going to be the first of many Spotlight posts. In these kind of posts I’ll be shining the spotlight on to different talented creative people from music and film – from directors, to producers, to musicians, to stylists. To not only the people in front of the camera but those behind them, and to not only those on stage but those behind the scenes.

The person behind some of the most popular music videos on the web right now is a lady whose passion for directing and creating visuals that I envy is the talented Hannah Lux Davis.

Who has she worked with??

Time to drop some names: Nicki Minaj, Drake, Lil Wayne, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Tinashe, Jessie J, Miley Cyrus, Wiz Khalifa, Mike.Will.Made.It, Paris Hilton, Jason Derulo, Fifth Harmony, David Guetta and Demi Lovato. And that’s not even all of them.

Videos of the Year 2015

As a film and media graduate it’s safe to say I appreciate the look and work of a visual form of art whether it’s a film or a music video.

And as a hip hop/RnB/pop fan I wasn’t disappointed with what we saw this year from artists, so I thought I’d break down a list to the best videos of 2015…

My Christmas Gift to You

It’s that time of year where it doesn’t matter whether you’re in a store, in your car or just watching TV – you’re going to hear a Christmas song.

It’s usually the same familiar faces and voices – Michael Bublé, Mariah Carey, Cliff Richard, Paul McCartney and Wham!

But what if you’re tired of hearing the same radio-friendly Christmas songs? What if you want to kick it up a gear and party the only way you know how – with songs made for turn ups and lit Christmases (I’m not talking about the lights on your tree here).

Well, I might have something in store for you good people.

The Creators In Hip Hop

So I recently watched Complex’s interview with rapper A$AP Rocky and it got me thinking. He and the A$AP crew spoke about their beginnings, how they pieced together their style, music and videos, and used their creativity to elevate themselves to the status that they’re at now. After watching I couldn’t help but think about those in the hip hop game that create great music – but more importantly, know how to give it to us in a way that is forward-thinking, creates a message and is always more than just the music. They are the creators in hip hop.

Blood was definitely spilt thanks to Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar

So I’m not out to post anything fresh it seems, because right now I want to write about the latest release from Taylor Swift: the epic release of the Bad Blood video.

I know, I know. You’re all like “But that video came out days ago… we’ve all seen it. The novelty isn’t there anymore…”

Excuuuse me, but I’m still a little giddy over it.
